Today's Vendor Spotlight is on Artisan Photography. I have been working with Artisan for the past 8 years. Tim's work is incredible and I always enjoy the final product. He and his wife Heather and are joy to be around and they really have fun with the clients. First read the interview and then enjoy some images he created with a few of our clients. Then take a moment to check out his website and contact him about your wedding asap!! I will be working with Tim on March 14th as well as a few other dates for 2009.
I stole a quick screen shot of his cutie-pa-tootie family so you can put a face to the name!
PD: How long have you been in the business?
AP: I started in 2002 so 7 going on 8
PD: What is your favorite thing about being a photographer?
AP: I really enjoy getting beautiful images. Whether it's a landscape, or a wedding couple in beautiful light, there is something very rewarding about getting a harmonious image. It's soothing to the soul when an image clicks.
PD: Do you get many bridezillas?
AP: No, I did however once shoot Godzilla in a brides dress, but he was surprisingly amiable. I, however, often find stereotypes to be wrong. Really though, no. There are sometimes tense moments for a bride, but they usually are worried they are acting much worse than I think they are.
PD: Do you photograph other things besides weddings?
AP: Yes, mainly nature/landscapes. I'm a natural nature enthusiast, whom naturally takes nature photos.
PD: Is there anything you just can’t live without professionally or personally?
AP: Food, water, shelter, and a 50mm 1.4. Otherwise I'm pretty good. I like some other luxuries.
PD: What is your favorite location to shoot?
AP: I'm not a location photographer, in that I don't need a "spot" to take photos. I really try to focus on the lighting, angles, and personality in the image. The backgrounds become secondary, and the people, primary. Which to me, is more important, when you are, after all photographing people. I like color and texture, but you can find that in a park or in an alley. I try to let my bride and grooms tell me where they like, and what they are like and guide our locations off that.
PD: Do you like to be photographed?
AP: No! Of course not. I look horrible in pictures!! Isn't that what you were going to tell me too? I do it from time to time, as it gives me perspective of what my model is feeling. Very beneficial.
PD: What’s your style?
AP: My style is clean and simple, which, aforementioned, focuses on light and compositions and personalities. Things that do not expire with time. I try to lightly incorporate trends as they will eventually become classic, without doing it to the extent that it makes it gaudy. See my website and I think you will "feel" more than I can tell you what it looks like.
PD: What should a client expect from Artisan Photography?
AP: You should expect nothing but professionalism and an outstanding eye for beautifully imagery. I will take beautiful shots and I will make them even more beautiful through modern tools, without overdoing it. I personally do my own color correction and artworking treating them like they are fine are prints that will be individual hung in a gallery. When you piece dozens of these together in one album, it's AMAZING!
PD: Do you have anything new or creative to share?
AP: "Some [artists] transform the sun into a yellow spot; others transform a yellow spot and make it the sun." Not new, but creative - a quote of Picasso
What make a great photographer to me (Sabrina)? Someone who can mix classic beauty with modern style. I don't want to be able to guess what year you got married just by looking at your album. I think that Artisan is one of those photographers that brings timeless imagery with a modern taste.
Thank you Tim for taking the time to let our readers get to know a little more about you and Artisan Photography. I look forward to many more stunning images in 2009!
